EXPLORE NEW ZEALAND

FLY FISHING IN NEW ZEALAND

With crystal-clear sapphire waters, surrounded by emerald forests, New Zealand is truly one of the world’s premier destinations for the travelling fly angler. Thousands of remote and wild rivers dot the landscape and play host to enormous rainbow and brown trout. Upstream sight fishing using dry-droppers is generally the most effective technique on the rivers of New Zealand. See the fish − take the shot − hold your breath! It’s not fishing, it’s hunting, and a visual symphony as one watches the fish eat, or refuse, your best presentations.

THE NORTH ISLAND

The North Island is an incredible destination for both its abundance of opportunities for high quality fly fishing, and other outdoor adventures. It’s the perfect stay-and-play destination for the outdoorsman. In addition to fly fishing, your stay will be action packed with options for activities such as hiking, shooting, paddling, and mountain biking. From Mount Maunganui alone, you can access more than 23 rivers and spring creeks, along with 16 lakes offering phenomenal sight fishing for monster wild rainbow trout.

the SOUTH ISLAND

The South Island offers some of the best sight casting opportunities for brown trout imaginable. The name of the game here is sight, stalk, and cast. Accuracy and presentation are key, and if the fish sees you, you’re out! The visual aspect of this type of fishing is exhilarating, and catching a pristine South Island brownie on the fly is a deeply rewarding experience.

While the average fish landed is between 4-6 pounds, double digit encounters are relatively common. However, hooking and ultimately landing one of these behemoths will put all of your angling skills to the test. Making accurate casts with long leaders, and ninja like stealth are required for success in the south.
