Why We Like It

Dating back more than a century, this massive ranch is still home to 90,000 sheep that produce more than 800,000 pounds of organic wool each year. The sprawling 435,000-acre property is home to an unbelievable 96 miles of private water. Guests could spend a lifetime exploring the waters of the Corcovado River, the Tecka Spring Creek, Monsters Lake, or any of the other smaller tributaries and springs on the estancia. Wild pink flamingos, rheas, and guanacos roam the ranch while giant Andean Condors soar overhead—all in the shadow of the magnificent Andes. The two comfortably furnished lodges offer gourmet food and wine and world-class hospitality in this Patagonian paradise.

The Estancia Tecka Lodge Experience

Estancia Tecka Lodge offers what no other lodge in Patagonia can—96 miles of pristine, private waters on a secluded 435,000-acre ranch at the foot of the Andes. Anglers staying at Tecka Lodge could spend a lifetime exploring the ranch and still not see it all. Whether you prefer casting large dry flies from a drift boat, stalking wary fish on crystal clear spring creeks, or tossing big dragonfly patterns to cruisers in the ranch’s lakes, Tecka Lodge has the perfect water for you.

The Corcovado River is a large freestone stream that flows through the western portion of the ranch in the shadow of the Andes. A mixture of boulder-strewn runs and deep, slow pools, the Corcovado is home to some very large rainbow and brown trout. The best way to fish this river is from a drift boat on one of the 15 different stretches located on the ranch.  A few areas of the Corcovado offer excellent wade fishing. Anglers here can test their skills as they cast big terrestrials to huge trout in the currents along the river’s edge.

The Tecka River is a beautiful willow-lined spring creek hosting large rainbows and browns. It is accessed exclusively by wade or bank fishing. Prolific hatches and numerous summertime terrestrials mean that these fish are always looking up for their next meal. Delicately-presented dry flies often produce explosive strikes. The river’s deeper pools hold some of the ranch’s largest trout—sometimes weighing upwards of 15 pounds.

Anglers looking for something a bit different may choose to spend a day on Monsters Lake. Nestled up in the hills not far from Caridad Lodge, this large, crystal-clear lake is a magical place. The flooded reeds along the banks attract scores of large dragonflies that swoop and dance along the water’s edge. Droves of large trout will swarm the shallows in pursuit—leaping aggressively out of the water to grab any dragonfly too slow to escape. Smack a buggy dry down hard on the surface, give a twitch and hold on!

This family-run operation features two well-appointed guest lodges. Designed with extensive attention to detail, both buildings offer the best in comfort and hospitality. The Headquarters Lodge is one of the original ranch buildings dating back more than a century. This facility features four large bedrooms, granite bathrooms and a handsome, spacious dining area. The newly renovated Caridad Lodge sits a 45-minute drive away on the banks of the Corcovado River.  Caridad has six bedrooms, spacious bathrooms and incredible views of the Andes and surrounding countryside. The outdoor fire pit is the perfect place to relax after a long day on the water as the sun sets behind the magnificent Andes. The lodge is in the process of adding a hot tub and sauna that will be ready for the 2024 season.

Non-angling guests may enjoy trekking, bird watching, or animal viewing while visiting the ranch. A spa and hot tub are scheduled to be completed for the 2024 season as well.

Several airlines offer daily flights from the U.S. to Buenos Aires International Airport (Ezeiza). These are typically overnight flights, arriving in BA early in the morning. Guests often choose to spend a day or two enjoying the wonderful food and culture before continuing to their destination.

From Buenos Aires, guests depart from the domestic airport, Jorge Newbery Airport (AEP), via Aerolineas Argentinas to Esquel (EQS). Upon arrival, guests are greeted by a representative from Tecka and transferred directly to the lodge (about 2 hours from Esquel). At the end of your stay, a lodge representative will transfer you back to Esquel for your return flight to BA.

IMPORTANTThere are two major airports in Buenos Aires. Domestic flights typically leave from Buenos Aires Jorge Newbery Airport (AEP) which is located on the other end of BA from the international airport, Buenos Aires International Airport (Ezeiza). Make sure to allow plenty of time between flights for the transfer. Please allow us to help you with any transfers in and around Buenos Aires.
