The Mount Pleasant Fishing Lodge Experience

Mount Pleasant is a small, charming, and secluded beachfront lodge offering comfortable accommodations and expansive outdoor grounds accented by  tropical foliage. The lodge has a pair of airy and bright duplex cottages with two air-conditioned rooms (one with double beds and the other with single beds), an open living room for socializing and lounging, full bath, kitchenette area with a full-size fridge, and outdoor patio with direct view of the fertile, oceanside flats of White Bight. There’s also a smaller duplex with a single room, full bath, and similar outdoor space. The main lodge, just steps from the cottages, incorporates the dining room, a small bar, and a sitting area with a large TV as well as an outside patio.

Mount Pleasant’s roster of top-notch guides primarily fish the legendary North Bight nearby, which boasts an expansive network of tidal creeks and channels with miles and miles of productive flats, coves and shallow lagoons (many sheltered from the wind) inhabited by a very healthy population of 2- to 5-pound bonefish and plenty of 6 to 8 pounders to spice things up. Trophy specimens of 10 pounds frequent the same shallows, and permit and tarpon are also available at times, as are other potential target species like barracuda, lemon sharks, various jacks, and mutton snapper.

Much of the fishing in Andros is approached from a flats boat, but wading is an exciting option in certain spots. With the fertile flats of White Bight practically outside your door, anglers staying at Mount Pleasant Fishing Lodge can also enjoy some do-it-yourself wade fishing after their daily bonefish charters. You’re going to want a solid pair of wading shoes or flats boots to protect your feet, however.

Fishing Schedule
After breakfast, lodge staff will drive anglers a nearby dock to meet their guides and board boats for a full day of fishing, which begins at about 7:30 a.m. and ends at approximately 3:30 p.m.

Boats
Mount Pleasant works with the area’s top independent guides. All are seasoned captains with extensive experience and equipped with modern, 16- to 18-foot flats skiffs from renowned brands like Dolphin, Hewes, Maverick, Action Craft ,and Hell’s Bay, designed to run and float shallow, stealthily stalk fish, and provide a roomy and stable platform from which to fly cast.

Loaner Gear
Most of the guides carry a spare fly outfit or two, but you should still plan to bring an extra rod, reel, fly line, and other essentials in case your primary gear gets damaged. You’ll also need a rain jacket, flats boots, and quality polarized sunglasses.

The lodge has a pair of spacious and well-appointed duplex-style cottage with two air-conditioned bedrooms (one with double beds and the other with single beds), an open living room with ceiling fan for socializing and lounging, full bath, kitchenette area, and outdoor patio overlooking the oceanside flats of White Bight. There’s also a smaller duplex with a single bedroom, full bath, and similar outdoor space. The main lodge sits just steps from the cottages and incorporates a large dining area, small bar, sitting area with TV, and an outside patio where guests can enjoy appetizers, cold beverages, and the ocean breezes.

Cuisine
At Mount Pleasant, guests enjoy a hearty breakfast every morning followed by boxed lunches consisting of sandwiches, chips, fruit, and cookies or candy bars. For dinner, guests can expect a variety of traditional Bahamian and American dishes with local seafood featured prominently on the menu along with fresh fruits and vegetables, chicken, and other meats.

Alcoholic beverages including beer are BYOB at Mount Pleasant, so make sure to stock up at the duty-free shop at the airport or a convenience store on the way to the lodge.
