Suindá Lodge

Situated in Argentina’s northeastern Corrientes Province and strategically built right on the shores of the upper Paraná River, Suindá is an elegant, eco-friendly lodge offering comfortable, air-conditioned accommodations with breathtaking views, superb food and wines, and immediate access to some of the best golden dorado fishing in the world. Dorado, the apex predator of the Paraná, rank among the most exciting gamefish on Earth and perhaps one of the most beautiful. Anglers led by Suindá’s expert guides have ample opportunity to tangle with bruising specimens reaching upwards of 30 pounds, as well as a compelling supporting cast that includes pacú and pira pitá, two other tough-fighting targets abundant in the region.

The floating dock where anglers meet their guides and board the boats is conveniently located just a few yards from the lodge. While most of the fishing at Suindá entails blind casting from a boat to river-bank structure, island shorelines, or submerged timber and rocks, a number of shallow sandbars along the river offer sight-fishing and even occasional wading opportunities, depending on the river’s level and the abundance of sábalo, golden dorado’s primary forage. The bottom of the sandbars is mostly hard-packed sand, nevertheless, flats-wading footwear or water shoes with a suitable sole are highly recommended to ensure good footing and protection against rays and any partially buried structure or debris. 

Golden dorado are the main target species, and the upper Paraná is renowned for regularly yielding trophies exceeding 20 pounds. But pacú and pira pitá, two other strong and challenging species, are also available in the area. Both are omnivorous and will readily take surface flies imitating fruits and berries. Pira pitá, usually in the 4- to 6-pound range, are the more acrobatic of the duo. However, pacú, which often exceed 10 pounds in waters near Suindá, are incredibly powerful and capable of blazing runs.

Fishing Schedule

Dorado are the epitome of a dawn-and-dusk-oriented predator. To ensure anglers are on the water during the most productive times, the fishing at Suindá is split into two shifts. The morning shift begins at about 6 a.m. after an early breakfast and ends at about 11 a.m. The late afternoon/evening shift starts around 4  p.m., after lunch and a siesta or some leisure time, and culminates at or just after dusk. The schedule does change slightly based on the time of year, current weather, and fishing conditions.

Boats 

Suindá Lodge has a fleet of modern 21- to 24-foot bay boats designed to reach the fishing grounds quickly and comfortably, float relatively shallow and provide a stable fishing platform for anglers casting from both the fore and aft decks. All boats are equipped with electric trolling motors and anchors to maneuver quietly into position and remain within comfortable casting range of fish or their likely hangouts. 

Loaner Gear

While Suindá guides try to keep a few fly outfits to lend guests in the event their gear is misplaced or damaged during the trip, the remote location of the lodge can make fixing or replacing tackle difficult. It’s a great idea to bring at least one spare rod and reel as well as plenty of flies, leaders, extra fly lines, pliers, and other essentials. You should also bring your own rain jacket, polarized sunglasses, and water shoes or flats-wading footwear for the sandbars.

Suindá is located on the shores of the Paraná River, the second largest river in South America, in the upper section where the river divides Argentina and Paraguay. Most of this region remains undeveloped and still teems with wildlife. The lodge has three, two-bedroom cabañas with air conditioning and private bathrooms, and wooden footbridges connect the rooms to the main lodge where the dining room, bar, and a comfy sitting area are located. There’s an outside deck with lounges overlooking the river, plus a small pool just large enough to take a dip and cool off during the midday heat.  

Cuisine

At Suindá a team of chefs trained in both classic and avant-garde culinary techniques takes pride in combining locally-procured produce and meats to create the delicious flavors and varied textures in every gourmet-quality dish. The meals here rival those served in the best restaurants in Buenos Aires and they are always prepared from scratch. All lunches and dinners are paired with Argentina’s iconic wines.

Beyond traditional asados (Argentine barbecue), guests can expect a variety of delicious entrées and sides. These go with the freshest vegetables and fruits; delectable appetizers including savory cheeses, cured meats, and breads baked in-house; and tantalizing desserts carefully concocted to provide an unforgettable ending to every lunch and dinner.

Connectivity

Cell service at Suindá is spotty, but that doesn’t mean you can’t stay connected. The lodge has a satellite phone for emergencies and also provides free Wi-Fi.

Guided wildlife and sightseeing tours can be arranged for an extra fee, but they must be scheduled ahead of your arrival.

Getting to Suindá is easy. Your trip starts with an overnight flight from one of several major U.S. cities to Ministro Pistarini International Airport (EZE) in Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina. From there you will transfer to Jorge Newbery Airport (AEP), about a 40-minute drive across town, to catch a domestic two-hour flight to either Corrientes (CNQ) or Resistencia (RES). A representative of Suindá will meet you at either airport and drive you to the lodge, about 90 minutes away.

Midcurrent’s services are completely free. Clients will not pay more than if booked directly with a lodge. All rates are per person based on double occupancy, and listed in U.S. dollars.

For Single Occupancy packages (one angler per boat and a single room), add a 60% surcharge.

Bookings are confirmed with a 50% deposit, made no later than seven days after booking a trip. Balance must be received no later than 90 days prior to the first day of the trip. Notification of cancellation must be received 90 days prior to the first day of the trip in order to receive partial or full credit for an alternate date. All payments are final and nonrefundable.

Booking a trip or making a deposit represents that the client accepts all terms and conditions.
